Can't you get her enthralled with, er, say, using an old 19th
c. mechanical apple peeler to remove the rind from Gouda cheese or
oh... lessee, making felt from angora rabbit hair with that old Sears
& Roebuck blender?

That's what old stuff is *for*, isn't it? 

Now you have me thinking about going the other way.  Can I rig my old
cast iron, flat-belt drive 24" band saw to do horizontal cutoff?  :-)
