flares on the end has been discussed. I don't remember any talk on things
to aid in the mixing. Have any of you tried this and has it made a
difference?"

You might consider using a very loosely coiled wire held by spring tension on
the inside of the mixing tube instead. This will induce spin, and spinning
the gas/air flow is the key to making a good mix while interfering least with
flow speed. No more than one complete turn in four inches down the coil. If you
interfere very much with flow speed, the burners will become even weaker.
