I recentlly hosted a BAM training class. For this we used gas forges
instead of coal because we wanted to concentrate on the forging process and
not on fire management. The gas forge used is one built in a BAM workshop 3
or 4 years ago. It has venturi style burners and is a little on the whimpy
side and only somes up to temp properly if I put a fire brick inside to
raise the stock and reduce the volumn to be heated. One of our students is
in heating and air conditioning. He suggested adding a pin to the tube
between the oriface and the forge to add to the mixing process of air and
gas.
There has been a lot of talk on this list about burners. Lately the use of
flares on the end has been discussed. I don't remember any talk on things
to aid in the mixing. Have any of you tried this and has it made a
difference?
