Digital is great when you're working with numbers or discrete units.  We
sound as analog data, so the best way to reproduce it is with analog
equipment.  I must admit, though, that my ear is not all that great;
high-quality digital sound seems pretty good to me.  And it copies from one
medium to another real well.

I bought an analog computer kit when I was about 16 (LOOONG time ago), and
it wasn't real accurate at calculating, but it sure did teach me a lot.

Say what you will about digital synthesizers and their impact on the 
marketplace, but there really isn't anything that quite sounds like an 
analog piece such as an original Mini Moog, or Korg MS-20.  Samplers and 
the like in the hands of talented people certainly take their place well 
enough I suppose, but there is a substantial, concrete reason why every 
digital synth or sampler ever introduced to the market had  Mini Moog 
bass  as a preset sound.  Don't even get me started on tube amps.
