I used to do printed circuit manufacturing and some design of both 
analog and digital circuitry be fore I gave it up to pursue my metal 
work. I don't doubt that the bean counters had their usual screwed up 
reasons for closing the shop but the cost of a circuit board really 
has little to do with whether or not it is for analog , digital or 
some hybrid of the two. It has more to do with the number of inter 
layers and holes and profile routing than what type of circuit. The 
exception would be for specialized microwave circuits where the 
substrate is something other than glass filled epoxy.
