Well, when I asked if I needed to heat the pot to non-magnetic I really
meant did I have to heat it to red as it was not attracted to a magnet in
the first place. Also, since I'm still hoping to get by with just some heat
from the mapp torch, is there some partial softening by heating it to purple
heat? Probably not, I'm guessing its an all or none phenomenon that kicks
in at red heat? Any thoughts.

most stainless, in my experience, isn't attracted to a magnet in fact that's
how I usually decide if something is stainless, if there's a doubt
