plug welded?  I don't know this term.  Welded through the hole?


Yes, you weld the hole full and the 1/2 x 1/8 is welded to the 1 1/4 x 3/16
attaching the screen to both pieces.  The screen will burn away if you try
to weld it to the 1 1/4 x 3/16  wthout the backer strip.  This was my first
screen and i was nervous as a cat that I'd burn a hole in the screen, but it
worked well.  I laid a large thin piece of aluminum over the nearby screen
while doing the plug welds.
