In all probability it's a 304 stainless, about the most widely used 
type.  According to the Principle Metals site  ( 
http://www.principalmetals.com/properties/result.asp?Family=Stainless+Steel&MetalName=304 
) anneal at 1850-2050 F (1010-1121 C) followed by rapid cooling (i.e. water 
quench).
