You may have to point your email browser at the right server. Call your
ISP help line, they should be able to get you on very simply.
Instructions may be available in stuff they sent you when you signed on,
or on an FAQ on your ISP's web page.
You can also use Google to search old articles in news. Type in your
search string and push on the Groups tab instead of the Search button.
If you go to Advanced Search (under Groups) you can limit the search to
specific newsgroups, by date, etc. An awful lot of topics have been
discussed to death and this is usually a good first stop for questions.
