Well, the response has been gratifying. I'll start fiddling with
hardware ASAP.
Never know about you guys, whether there's any interest or not. Got
mostly arguments about the Grasshopper, and still do. (I must say,
though, Ray Maiara's interest was inspirational:
http://auroraforge.com/blacksmithing/grasshoppers.html) I don't know
whether anyone else has yet FINISHED building a GH, though I've sold a
number of plans for the thing.
I got mostly incredulity about the Weightless Hammer, from folks who
don't know the difference between "weightless" and "massless". Since
those plans are free, over the web, I have no clue whether anyone else
has built one, or even printed out the plans.
As you might imagine, this new TH will not be totally novel. (What
is?). But as usual, I'd like to build a prototype or six before
announcing the mechanism to the world. Good reason for that. My
"design" for the Weightless Hammer changed immensely from conception to
final plans.
Most recently I've been busy modifying the Grasshopper. I've
eliminated the kickback adjustment (left crank on the diagram) to make
it simpler. Now the kickback will be adjusted automatically as you
adjust the treadle height. I want to finish prototyping that mechanism
(in my "copious" free time) before starting on the new TH design.
Fortunately I nearly achieved what I was after last Monday, and may have
it in final form very soon.
