Hey- wait a minute- wasnt this thread on the artmetal list?

Thats a cool little lathe, but it doesnt look strong enough to cut 
manly metals, like stainless steel. Its made out of wood, to cut wood. 
If I made one, I would want to make it out of steel, and instead of a 
wimpy little 1/4hp motor, I'm thinking more like 3hp 3phase- maybe a 
head off a bridgport.

I have found that it is usually cheaper to buy a used tool for 3 grand 
than build your own and only spend 500 bucks on parts. 2 years later, 
when it still doesnt work quite right, and you add up your time and 
actual expenses, you coulda bought 2.
