The 500 # little giant is in Southern Minnesota. The owner invites the
Guild of Metalsmiths there every fall for a two day conference. Sitting
beside it is a 25 Little Giant and several years ago UMBA had this
picture on its cover. It looks like you should be able to go over to
the 25 and pick it up with out any problem.
A couple of years ago we were sticking a penny and a nickel together
with one hammer blow. Some of us are easy to entertain.
When the hammer is running windows in buildings 1/2 block away rattle
with every hit.
The problem with this size hammer one little mishit makes a large mess
to the piece but with practice you can make lighter hits also.
This year the majority of hammering was done with a treadle hammer or
hand hammers chisel cutting out traditional steel pierced panels for
electric lanterns at the gate entrance.
Some silicon bronze was pored and a couple of pattern welded blades were
pounded out also.
Sitting in close proximity were a 500# LG, two 25# LGs, and two 50# LGs.
These hammers were made not far away and are somewhat easier to find
than in other places of the USA, although they are going up in price
here also. Paid $410 for one in August but that was a steel, as a
matter of fact it got stolen from me at the auction site but have since
recovered it and resold it.
