I missed that part of your message somehow.
Anyway, the issue here is probably to keep the "bugs" alive and happy.
The problem is knowing WHAT conditions will suffice. You mentioned pH.
pH is pretty easy to check, but checking it doesn't help unless you know
what pH the bugs like and how to keep it there.
One approach would be to do a general read of septic system literature.
In other words, get books. That would not necessarily address the
particular system you have, but septic systems have been around for a
long time and I doubt there's anything particularly magic about the
brand you're using.
Once you're conversant with septic systems in general, you'll know what
questions to ask. (I can't help you here. I don't know much about them
myself.) Try asking the serviceman. (Doesn't hurt to try.)

Yes, as I already mentioned all I came up with was sites that sell the
units, no information on how to service them yourself...
