Dear Andy,

 I really couldn't say. I have gotten 250 amp machines to spray (but just
barely) even with 75/25 gas, but they were cranked up ALL the way, and then
cut the wire feed way back and they will spray, but not with anywhere near
the ooomph you get from the hotter gas.  If you happen to have pure argon
laying around, hook it up and try it and tell us if it works.  From some of
the other responses, I'd guess there are others reading this who are way
more qualified to answer...
