[TheForge] Computer question OFF TOPIC

Scott,

My wife is a teacher. Her school started out with apples and when we
bought our first computer, it was an apple IIC. Since then we have
stuck with apple because they are what we know and they work for us.

Do they have problems? Sure...they are a mechanical (sort of) thing.
There will be problems.

Your implication (below) that Macs "aren't worth writing them (virus)
for", stops short of the REASON Macs are not "worth" writing viruses
for. Because the people that write virus want to screw up as many
people as possible...that would be non Mac people (you).

So it seems to me that WHATEVER THE REASON, if I can buy a computer
that will be less prone to problems...even if those problems are not
with the machine itself but from an outside source...why WOULDN'T I buy
one of them?

We have a brand new iMac with a flat panel screen (15"). It has a
800MGz PowerPC G4 processor with 512 MB of memory. We paid $1099 and if
we bought a printer (hp deskjet 5550) at the same time (we did) we got
a $99 rebate which we have already received. So for $1000 we got a very
nice computer and printer which is at least less likely to have
problems (I think) than a Dell or other.

When guys ask for help for a computer related problem on theforge I am
amazed at the general knowledge that comes out to help. I have come to
the conclusion that you guys know more about your computers because you
work on them more. Darrell who first attacked me when i said "or a mac"
said that the only reason to buy a mac was that you admitted to
yourself that you can't learn.

As far as the money...maybe Macs cost more...I really don't know. (It
seems at least a little funny to me that Darrell knows how much Macs
cost.) But we all make our choices and spend our money the way we
choose. As long as I'm not asking Darrell for money I don't see how
that matters. I bet Darrell drives a newer car than me.

As far as being "completely convinced I can't learn"... you know he was
right. I don't care what's going on inside this thing.... just like I
don't care how my automatic transmission in my car works...I just want
it to work...

and it does.

Best wishes.
