[TheForge] Johnson Forge-Anvil-tongs for $65?

An alternative that I've seen was referred to as a "clamshell" forge,
IIRC. It had a refractory-lined lid over a base made of insulating fire
brick. The lid could be lifted and held up by some mechanism (on a
hinge?). Anyway, the idea was that it was not fully open to the air at
all times. That's why I was wondering about the open design of the
Johnson forge. Sounds like not worth pursuing, to judge by responses.

Andy,
In preparing to try my hand at one of the open forges, I was planning
to actually build a kaowool "lid" to make it more like an NC or other
smaller enclosed forge. Am I pushing on a rope? wasting my time? kidding
myself?
