I was glad to hear that ABANA is continuing to support this list, as I
see theForge as dead on serving the stated goals of ABANA. ABANA is an
organization , not a magazine publisher, so controversy shouldn't be a
big issue, and the controversy comes from a lot more directions than
just theForge. I am actually dissapointed that ABANA doesn't promote
theForge more, and that more ABANA board members aren't active, but I
can understand that mailing lists aren't everyone's thing. It should
be the defacto communications vehicle for ABANA. I also think that
long term members of theForge really have no excuse for not joining
ABANA, but if they don't want to then that is fine as well. In any
event, my point wasn't really about ABANA, it was more to the fact that
theForge will not disappear due to a little controversy, what will kill
it is apathy. I.E. people just don't care to follow or contribute to it
anymore. That could be caused by it turning into nothing but a soapbox
for the malcontents, but it is not likely. Most people on this list
tend to ignore the crap, the malcontents lose their audience and the
list goes on. If for any reason ABANA did decide to drop funding for
theForge, I don't think it would be an issue. The current cost of
running it is a pittance and I ( and I suspect many others) could easily
pay it and not think again about it. So don't focus on the fact that
the ABANA board debated support, thats their job. Focus on the fact
that they made the right decision and are supporting it. They made a
good decision. Sorry my earlier comments tended focus on the negative.
