	NOt sure what you mean by "selective startup".  In any event,
	your CD drive should open or close regardless.  If I power up
	a CD drive that is not conected to a computed and press the
	open/close button, it will open or close normally.  That yours
	is not would appear to indicate a hardware problem.  Make
	sure everything is connected.  Did you open the case?  Could
	the power supply have become disconnected?
