The aluminum "plates" used in photo offset printing make really good
wrap around.  They're thin and flexible, cut easily with snips or even
scissors (*not* your wife's precious fabric shears :-), take pencil or
magic marker very well and are durable enough that you can keep the
patterns you make.  Also handy for all sorts of other templates and
don't burn up if they get a mite too cose to the heat.

Small ones for ca. 8.5"x16" paper are very flexible.  Bigger ones,
such as for tabloid newspapers, are stiffer but still very handy.
Printers usually just chuck used ones and may have un-used ones with
spoiled or out of date photo surface.

[OT] And you can use this stuff to make a superior pinhole camera by
drilling a #80 hole in it.  With the drill in a hand-held whatever,
you can make a nice clean pinhole.
