[TheForge] Burning Metal

Magnesium and its alloys burn quite vigorously as do alloys of sodium and
thermite (a compound of iron and aluminum). Look for information on the
fighting of Class "D" fires. Such fires are a concern aboard warships,
where these alloys are often found. In the old days, the most common method
was to cover the burning metals in sand and get them over the side. Now
there are chemical extinguishers specially made for "D" fires.
