But you see, thats the point. We're not "saving" the earth, we're
working to preserve for as long as possible an ecosystem conducive to
our own survival. I say as long as possible, since stars and planets
and their orbits have finite lives. The very self absorbed stupidity
that drives the bad behavior you would think would moderate the
behaivior as well, but as long as the truly bad ramifications are
several lifetimes away, it is too easy to defer. In the end, it should
be ok, since ecosystems seem to be self balancing --- too many rabbits
means more coyotes means less rabbits means less coyotes. Since we
keep engineering our way around nature's gentler controls I just wonder
what the ecosystem is cooking up for us? Microbes or insects?
