Yep it was soft maple tree. :( My Pastor had hung the boat up in the tree to get to the bottom of the boat. When I got there he had it already hung. The wind was comig up and he was worried about something happening. DUH.

Well anyhow I wound up helping him get it back outa the tree. So it wouldn't crash, You should have seen the mess he used to hang it with. Couple of those crappy wire comalongs and an old rope fence stretcher. Most of which was vvvvvvvvvvvvvvery hard to get to to release. Climbing tree limbs and hanging upside down.

I spent a few years as a rigger arounf boilers and refinery's. Wished he'd asked before it was hung.

Nobody killed though, and it makes a good story. Y'all shoulda seen the look the Pastors face as the boat was bobbong up and down in the tree.

Just for future reference, be cognizant of the fact that
maple is a VERY weak wood in all cases except rock varieties.
Sugar and swamp maples are woods that will seem very strong
and mighty indeed, until you cross the extremely narrow
failure threshold. Those varieties just go very suddenly
. It's not like oak, for instance, that will creak
and groan a whole lot in warning before failing. You hear
nothing but the CRAAAACK and of course by then it's done.

Having a (your?) sailboat fall out of a tree is probably
anything but a pretty sight.

Who was hanging a boat from a maple tree? And why?
