Hey, I just had anothoer thought... scary as that may be, it might
work.

Any o fyou recall that weord paint remover stuff that you can supposedly
eat and not die?  You gloop it on, it's a paste, put a sheet of some
paper over it, wait X hours and the paint peels right off?  I recall it
being shown on This Old House, oh, perhaps a dozen or so years ago.
Maybe it was called Peel Away, or something like that?

I wonder if it would work on tar?  It works for oil paint, which is
polymerized linseed oil.  Maybe for pertoleum oil products as well?

Might be worth a shot. I recall they toook something like 30 layers
of paint off with what appeared to be some serious ease.
