Here's two links to sites that sell prefabricated components (forged, cast, 
etc...) for railings and gates and grilles and ... whatever.

I realize that we all have a tenancy to want to make everything ourselves, 
but .... even if you don't want to buy parts to assemble, sites like these 
can be a good source for ideas for decorative elements that you can 
incorporate into custom products.  But, then there are times like large 
projects and time constraints where buying prefabricated components is well 
worth the time saved.  For example, the decorativeiron.com site has weather 
vane letters, cast iron finials, etc....

In any event, they're worth a look.
