I have used the free version of all of the afore mentioned windows based
products, adaware, spybot and zone alarm. Along with my routers firewall, I
have found them all to work quite well. Zone alarm is prombly going to be
the most useful of the three, as it will block any attempt to access the
'net even if a program has installed it self without your knowledge, and
once you see the blocked attempt, you can then run spigot or ad aware and
remove the evil trash. So even if one of the hover over crapolas gets onto
your system you can be reasonably assured that nothing will get sent to them
before you can remove the offending program.
I don't bother with the following, but you might want to use an old pc in
conjunction with your router, if you have one, for web access and email
only. I believe that the secure method is to use netbui to link with your
other pc's on your network and reserve tcp/ip only for the email and web
box. Not to sure about the preceding, but I'm sure others there will be able
to fill in or correct any misinformation that in the last passage.

What is an effective spyware prevention software that will prevent evil
programs like xupiter from taking over my internet browser? I've spent the
entire morning figuring out how to get rid of it without spending money.
Now I might spend a little money to prevent such episodes in the future.
