have worked on a lot of magnetoes and converting one to electronic
ignition isn't impossible. The shell and the gear are all that is
really needed, though mechanical advance can be useful. In your
application, a fixed advance would work fine, since it will be operating
at a single speed I would expect. On the otherhand. my xlch is a fixed
advance mag as well. At 45 degrees btdc, it makes it fun kicking it
off, but after that it runs fine. My theory is why by an antitheft
device when you can ride one. ( it also is about nine feet long, has a
couple of inches of clearance, has no front brake and the brake and
shift lever are reversed from what is "normal". The clutch is on or off. )

rec.crafts.metalworking group can nail the product used most often. I
know some of the regulars there have tried it on lathes etc.
