Roger,
          My first contract was for 9 mission lamps.  I built the lamps and 
shipped them straight to the contractor, who in turn resold them to the 
homeowner plus installation costs.  I didn't even know about UL inspection 
requirements and the contractor never mentioned them.  I heard from the 
contractor that there were no problems with the lamps and I got paid.  
Everything I needed to know about lighting, I got from the Homedepot 
houseowners do it yourself manuel and the electrical guy at homedepot who gave 
me lots of advice.  

I would say make'em safe, and if they want the inspection, they can pay for it.
