It's close -- a lot of brass alloys melt at ~1700F. If the plate hits 
critical at 1500 F and
the control is reallllly good.....might work.

Ryan Johnson melts silver into depressions on tomahawks and can heat treat 
them and I'm about to try the same on a dagger with a delaimination 
....we'll see.
