Amen... Mike and Ralph. I had the opportunity to work under a couple of big
steam hammers in Bethlehem Steel's blacksmith shop in the late 1970's just
prior to its closure.
I do not know the weight of the tups of these bubbas...they were just
referred to as the 75 ton and 50 ton steam hammers.
We forged large foundry parts and tools from 2000 lb. blooms. One
understands 2 things very, very quickly...1. the metal better be very hot
or dead level on the anvil and 2. do not piss off the hammer driver.
