[TheForge] Outdoor Finish

The paste wax is strictly an interior finish. Another I use is spray
polyurathane. For exterior use I normally apply 1 coat of orange (rust
colored) primer, then a coat of grey primer, then 2 coats of flat black
enamel. I use 2 colors of primer so that its easy to see the coverage. This
typically holds up for about 2 years.Getting good primer coverage into the
nooks and crannies,
really helps. After the 1st application it takes a few minutes with a wire
brush and a can of black paint every year or so to keep it up. For the pro
blacksmith you may want to work out a planned service agreement for a
nominal annual fee paid in advance ;^)
