[TheForge] electrolitic rust removal

The rust removal solution calls for 1tbsp/gal of washing soda.
I have no washing soda and do not know where there is any.

I have heard of people using substitutes i.e.: Drano, baking soda,=20
lye, would some one straighten me out on this before I cause harm?
