Too many Bobs around ;-)
The basic difference between hot rolled and cold rolled is that cold rolled
has a nicer finish, but, since it was forced into shape cold, when it's
heated, it tends to sproing back in off directions. Rasther than having the
grains somewhat aligned, as hot-rolled does, they're likely to be any which
way- kinda the difference between neatly folding your clothes and putting
them in a suitcase, and just jamming them in any which way.
Both will work just fine for most of our applications, but cold is best for
cold fabricating applications, while hot (which is usually cheaper) requires
less adjustment while working hot.

"When in doubt, heat it up and hit it with a hammer."
Blacksmith's credo.
If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it is probably not a
cat.
Never a horse that cain't be rode,
And never a rider who cain't be throwed....
