Bob and all,
I'm not sure why but sometimes the obvious just eludes me. I've been
using denatured alcohol and acetone for so long to clean oil off metal
that when I needed a more decorative piece to be completely free of dirt
etc. I stumbled. I bought two products that worked equally as well last
night, Zep Citrus spray, and Simple Green all purpose concentrated
cleaner(lemon). I cleaned with a med fine?(maroon) scotch brite pad
which gave the pieces a nice vertical "grain" that is most pleasing.
The pieces are mild steel 1/8 plate, very little rust (toned done with
scotch brite or steel wool). They are cladded to dry wall on several
door jambs in an interior space(dressing area, bathroom) of a private
home. I also made sliding doors for this space so they look very nice
together. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Regards,
Bill Woolley
