[TheForge] Off Topic nonsense

All,

For a long time, like since 1994 or so, there has been a tacit agreement on
the list that off topic posts are acceptable BUT should include some
reference such as "OT" or "YAK" in the subject line. This alerts people
and their e-mail filters as to the nature of the post. If we can adhere to
this "rule" it helps a great deal.

As for the current rift .... the main combatants all have valid
points. The two principle ones being: 1) The occasional off topic post
is fine and dandy, we are a 'community' after all. 2) When you make a
post unrelated to blacksmithing, then let other readers know. Please try
to keep these two points in mind when you go off topic.

Additionally, try to keep the flame bait type of words (e.g. "ignorant
tard") at home and not on the list. Politeness counts around here .... I
hope. As for banning people (which has never been done in the life of this
list), well that's my decision to make as List Administrator and I hope
never to have to resort to that.

Thank you, one and all,
Dave
