[TheForge] Re: Dehydration

This is a symptom of sweating off too much "salts". The next symptom is
muscle cramps - usually in your hammer arm.

My cure is Thermotabs brand "salt" tablets. Maybe there are other
brands, but I don't know them. These are not just sodium chloride, but
a mix of sodium and potassium chlorides, with some other ingredients
probably intended to make them dissolve in your stomach. (I've tried
pure salt tablets and don't like them.) Take one with a full glass of
water. Ignore the label that tells you to repeat this umpteen times a
day - I can't recall ever needing more than two tablets in a day, and my
last bottle of 100 tablets (~$8, currently) lasted me about 20 years.

I think of Thermotabs as dehydrated Gatoraide, without the silly colors
and disgusting flavors.

Same thing happened when I drank only water, but I felt thirsty all
the
time, at least when Im drinking gatorade, powerade etc...
I dont feel thirsty constantly, just tired and got the bright
yellow pee... (which I was told is a sign of
dehydration.)

I guess alternating 1 bottle of water for each {quot} 'ade' du jour
" is the next thing to try...

Yes, it is well known that you need minerals in your diet, and often
through

a hot day, doing hot and heavy work, but we tend to go overboard.
During
a 4

hour shift at Pennsic, I will go through a gallon of water (I hate

gatorade). The fighters (consider, guys, beefy men, in 50-100 lbs of
armor

and weapons, running all over a field about noon in August, and
hitting
each

other with sticks) who use our 50/50 mix DON'T drop from heat issues-
they

go through a gallon and a half to two gallons per battle. Those who
think

straight anything-but-water used to drop like flies, but now the only
ones

who do that are newbies. You actually get most of the minerals you
really

need through your daily food, if you eat something approaching a
balanced

diet.

So, cut your Gatorade consumption in half, and you'll deal with the

dehydration issue.

anything, but you still can't help but smile when you

see one tumble down the stairs.
