Hello Larry;
Yeah, back in '80..sure lost $ on that one....too. The tongue was the
air intake, there was mica behind the eyes so the fire shown through and
there was an oven built in on the other side. It is still in service.
An alternative solution, which is pretty interesting, is secondary
combustion of the smoke.
2 methods; both require a refractory chamber that concentrates and
stores heat to support the 2nd stage burning
....1, a catylitic converter ( made for fireplaces)
....2 An air induction ( preferably preheated) valve into the upper chamber.
Both deliver a fair bonus in efficiency and reduce creosote build up.
