There is an easier way....

quite a few blacksmith groups are buying 1k and 2k pallets of coke (50#
bags) and reselling them to their members as a fund raiser. In bulk 50#
is $7.50 or so.. the group sells it for $10 to cover the trucking
and make a little profit. I know HABA, AFC,
I really like using the coke, its just the right size and it doesnt stick
together so bad that you cant get your steel in the fire.
Its tougher to start and keep going so I mix it about 3:1 with
coal. This ratio seems to work well..

As a side note, I go ahead and coke
a quantity of coal, up to a 5 gl. bucket
at a time, at the start of a session rather than deal with the smoke
all
day. I do this by first breaking the coal up in 3/4{quot}- pieces and
casually
separating the fines, say 1/4{quot}-.

In my experience a 5 gl. bucket of
high quality coal produces enough breeze
to keep two guys working for a good eight hours on a moderate sized
fire.
Best of all, all the smoking is over and done with in about 10 minutes
at
the beginning of the session.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good
for
anything, but you still can't help but smile when you
see one tumble down the stairs.
