Well, I am brand new here 'n' feel a bit like a fish otta water, so I
thought I otta introduce meself.

(Yea, I know I "talk funny", but when yer 150 years old 'n' live on the
Northern Plains, waddya expect!)

I'm a 50-something year old farm girl who's worked all her life in the
high-tech engineering field but developed a life long passion for old
machinery and have an insatiable urge to "build things" and restore antique
machinery. In recent years, I have built a 1/2 scale steam threshing outfit
(engine, water wagon, and threshing machine) and restored a1958 Oliver OC-46
crawler. I promised to STOP my obsession (since the garage is full and some
of my "toys" have to sit outside) but it didn't work.

The current project is a 1/3 scale Civil War era 6-pound cannon.

Well, of course there are many little fittings required for the carriage and
blacksmithing is something I have always been interested in so . . .

I picked up a couple of books and read them. Last weekend I acquired a small
anvil (100 Lb) and a portable forge that needs a little restoration, so,
while I am restoring the forge and doing the machining on the cannon barrel,
I thought I would hang around here, listen to the conversations, and see
what tidbits of wisdom I can pick up before I build my first blacksmith's
fire.

If you've got nothing to do, you can drop by my home page and see how bad my
obsession is; http://www.geocities.com/diannebest

Don't mind me, fellers. I'll jist sit over here in the corner 'n'
listen.....

Calamity Jane
