[TheForge] forge brazing

Does anyone have any experience with forge brazing?  I  am working on a
door knocker and I would like to braze it together but I am not having a
lot of luck.  The pieces I am putting together are 2  1.25" half rounds
with a piece of  1/4" flat bar in between them.  Here is a
representation of it ^---^ What I am making is a plate with a tower on
either side.  I  filed the mating edges, heated the pieces fluxed them
and tried putting brazing rod that had been flattened between the pieces
when that didn't work I tried bronze filings I then put it in the gas
forge I did get it to stick but it was not a good joint.  I did manage
to get a good joint with a torch but I got bronze in the corner I will
have to file out Because of the details I will have on the towers I
would like to avoid a lot of clean up in the corners.
