[TheForge] Welding a whole lotta cast iron

Hi all,
In effort to keep my neighbors happy, I do small welding jobs for
free. ...well....A neighbor brought me his antique tractor (big!!!). The
entire front frame is cracked down from the top of the tractor down through
to where it connects to the front wheels. He wants to weld it back
together. (about 4ft high and 18 inches wide)

My thoughts...
1. Jack up the front and remove the front frame from tractor.
2. Grind a nice clearance so I get good penetration.
3. Build a big bonfire and toss the frame in and heat it up.
4. Pull it out and weld with nickel rod or other recommended rod
5. toss it back the fire to equalize the heat
6. finish weld
7. toss it back the fire to equalize the heat and leave in fire until it
goes out.
8. pull out in the morning and reattach.

suggestions? This is a bigger weld job than I have ever done. I already
told him that I wouldn't guarantee it.
