My Alldays & Onions has a flat on the ram. A tranverse boring that
intersects the ram bore has a wedge in it and a tapered bar passes
through that. Adjusting nuts on either end of the bar tracks the bar
along the wedge and presses it more or less tightly against the flat
of the ram. The bar has a piece of 1/4" brass (company docs say "gun
metal") on the friction face attached with countersunk flathead
screws.
