While lecturing y'all about the lack of UV emmissions from a forge fire, I =
was thinking how nice it would be if everybody had a spectroscope so they =
could see these things for themselves (not the UV, of course, but the lack =
of intensity in the purple-end of the spectrum from a forge fire). =20

Well, it occurred to me that a compact disk is a pretty good reflection-typ=
e diffraction grating, as anyone can tell from the rainbow colors they =
produce.  So I did a google search, and lo and behold, someone thought of =
it already!  The following gives detailed instructions how to build your =
own spectroscope from a CD and misc. other trash:
