This is a case of "how much do you do with it?".  If the collector's will 
give you more than another blacksmith would (and we're a cheap crowd), sell 
it and get a good anvil elsewhere or get a newer one.

As for the sewing machine conversion to scroll saw ... well there are plans 
available to make a scroll saw out of good, some nuts and bolts and a drive 
motor.  I've seen them in action and they're really good.  They also seem 
easier to build than would converting an old sewing machine that may have 
some, albeit limited, collector value.
