[TheForge] Steel frame capacity...

As usual, I'm in a bit over my head. My work junked an old piece of
exercise equipment including a high capacity rolling base with a one touch
locking mechanism. Nice, it will be a perfect base for my tablesaw
(roughly 200-300#). Now I'm pretty confident thatthe base will support the
saw the questions is howto make the 8" spacer between the saw and the base.

Tools: Almost any woodworking tool is avaliable, as is a MigPac 100. My
first thought was a 2x2 steel frame that would go under the saw and then 4
legs that would be welded to the base. My second thought is I have no idea
how to choose the minimal steel dimensions that will get the job done. I
know that 2x4 steel posts are overkill but that 3/4 is too small. Any
advise? I know that there are reference books out there but have no idea
on how to evalaute them.

In the crude ascii drawing the OOO are the base of the saw, the ### are
the proposed steel frame, and the +++ is the mobile base.
A second school of though holds that I should just construct a heavily
reinforced plywood box and use that for the spacer. Ideas on this would
also be welcome.
