hello;
it had not occurred to me before but the sidearm i built is using either
a 0.030 or 0.035 mig tip. these equate to 69 and 65 orifice
respectfully. the reil burners i still run are running with a 57
orifice (hand drilled).
Drill Size Orifice Dia.
inches
57 0.043
65 0.035
69 0.0292
5psig:
Drill Size btus per hr
57 14651.5568
65 9706.9535
69 6756.3566
given that the nozzle and 3/4 black pipe is the same, since i replace
the reil reducer with the asymmetric tee and not the entire burner, this
would reinforce my earlier comments concerning drilling orifice holes.
the drilled orifice in the reil burner either has burrs or is not at 90
degrees.
or the mig tips are really larger than marked.
interesting. would be interesting to put a flowmeter in the burner
supply line and collect data concerning flow rates to determine what may
really be happening.
btw: a 0.023 mig tip would equate to either a 73 or 74 orifice.
which does work for melting aluminum in a large coffee can crucible
furnace. that coffee can crucible furnace is lined with kaowool blanket
coated with itc-100. which allows the use of an orifice that small.
