hello;

i am a bit confused as to which spelling of gauge/gage is used
in which context. i have checked various online dictionaries and
they do not agree as to the use. several indicate that gauge/gage
are just alternate spellings. in the technical world is there a
specific context for using one spelling as oppossed to the other?

should it be pressure gauge or pressure gage?
should it be 24 gauge black cold rolled sheet metal or
             24 gage  black cold rolled sheet metal?
