Bob Bergman once taught me a little trick for making cork-screws.  Use two pieces of thin 
stock (1/8") and twist them together.  When cool, cut the ends loose and separate them.  You 
end up with two cork-screws, one with a left-hand thread.

You can experiment with twisting various sizes of material and get different internal diameters 
on the screw.
