[TheForge] recycled steel- spinoff question

I'm very low tech. By specialty steels I mean any steel that I have to use
a letter or number name for.
I get the 1006 steel for my high relief chasing and repouss leaves. I
don't know if I got a certification sheet, but I got some kind of sheet that
told what the material was.

So is recycled steel used in all sorts of different steel alloys? I'd like
to feel a little self righteous about the environmental impact of
blacksmithing (just a little please). Is there any terrible environmental
impact from the recycling of steel?

p.s. If I get to feel a little self righteous about the environmental
impact of using steel, then I really need to beat myself up when I work in
gold.
