[TheForge] New way to make beer

When I was in Germany on an exchange in
the late sixties, the rule in the little
town I was in made those under 16 leave
the bars at 9pm.

I can not say whether this was local
law/ custom or more widely accepted
practice. What I saw was that the
serious drinking was by those over 30
and tourists. The youngest drinking
appeared to be maybe 14 or so. My
impression was that the younger ones
stayed away because of social pressures,
and the 16-20 year old crowd were more
interested in courting ritual than
getting plastered.

This might have something to do with the
beverage of choice at lunch and dinner
being beer for everyone but the
youngest.
