John,

There may be recommendations for starting points on hot cuts but they are just starting points. I use H13 for my hot cutters and have a pretty sharp edge. I would guess about 30 degrees. How well this works for you will depend on what you're cutting, how hot you're cutting, and what you made your tool out of.

The sharper you make it the easier it will break down.

As far as hardening and tempering I just forge the tool then re heat and let air cool (H13). It works good for me but I have been told my technique is incomplete. Too each his own.
